MP couple arrested for ganja smuggling in Odisha’s Subarnapur

Sonepur: Excise police intercepted a sedan having a Chhattisgarh registration number and seized around 21 kilograms of Ganja (cannabis) following a thorough search of the vehicle at Kartanga Chhak under Binika block in Subarnapur district, during routine patrolling today at around 7.00 am.

According to Excise sources, the contraband item was kept in two large sacks. A couple was sitting inside the car and was later arrested by the probe team in this connection. The patrolling team suspected the movement of the vehicle and detained it leading to the seizure of Ganja and two arrests.

The illegal trader couple had put a ‘MEDIA’ sticker on the right-hand top corner of the car to give a slip to police and Excise personnel. However, this raised suspicion in the minds of Excise personnel.

“Two arrested were identified as Anil Soni and his wife Rajni Soni from Madhya Pradesh. The duo was forwarded to court later in the day. “We have registered a case under Sections of the NDPS Act and launched a probe into the illegal transportation,” Subarnapur Excise SP Sumati Tripathy said.
