Multiple COVID-19 cases detected at Puri Srimandir; restrictions likely

Puri: Restrictions are likely to be imposed on entry of devotees into the Jagannath Temple in Puri as multiple COVID-19 cases were detected at the centuries old shrine.

In view of rise in COVID cases at Srimandir, the decision on possible restrictions will be taken at the Chhatisa Nijog meeting scheduled to be held virtually with all stakeholders at 6.30 pm today, informed Puri Collector Samarth Verma.

He said that many employees of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and servitors have tested positive for COVID-19. In order to prevent further spread of infection, the temple administration has convened a meeting in the evening.

As the night curfew will be imposed in Puri town from 9 pm as per the guidelines by Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the devotees will be allowed to enter into Srimandir by 8.30 pm. Due to night curfew restriction, the devotees will be asked to exit from temple after offering prayer before 9 pm, he said.
