Salipur: A polling agent and his supporters were critically injured in a violent clash at two polling booths in Salipur Assembly Constituency in Odisha's Cuttack district.

The poll violence occurred at Booth No. 184 and 185 at Mala Sasan area in Salipur, which comes under Kendrapara Parliamentary Constituency. The victims were admitted to the Salipur CHC for treatment. The incident triggered outrage at the polling station.

According to reports, a BJP's polling agent and his supporters were attacked with a 'paniki' (a traditional cutting instrument used in the kitchen) for allegedly opposing booth capturing by a group of people belonging to the BJD at the polling station.

Actor-turned-politician Arindam Roy sought action against accused BJD workers over the murderous assault on the BJP polling agent and workers. He alleged booth rigging by BJD workers at many polling stations in Salipur.

"After receiving information about booth capturing at Booth No.184 and 185 allegedly by one BJD worker namely Ramesh Jena, the BJP polling agent rushed to the polling station. Around 150-200 BJD people were forcing voters to press the EVM button on BJD's poll symbol. When he objected it, they drove him out of booths and attacked him violently by kicking, punching. In an attempt to kill him and his supporters, the BJD workers assaulted with a paniki and wooden stick," alleged Arindam Roy, who is the BJP's Assembly candidate from Salipur.

However, Cuttack Collector rubbished booth capture allegation clarifying that the clash took place outside the polling booths in Salipur.
