Nayagarh: A student sustained critical injuries after a group of armed miscreants launched a murderous attack on him in Odisha’s Nayagarh district for opposing ganja trade in the area.
The victim, identified as Laba Mahapatra, a +3 third year student of Pathani Samanta College in the district and a resident of Parbatipur village under Fategarh police limits, was initially admitted to the Bhapur Community Health Centre and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
According to reports, the victim had been opposing ganja peddling in the area and spreading awareness among villagers to abstain from its consumption. Several armed miscreants, suspected to be the supporters of the ganja peddler, attacked him with swords on Bhapur-Parbatipur bypass road while he was returning home last night.
He sustained grievious injuries on his head and hands in the incident. His family members have alleged that the ganja peddler had threatened Laba multiple times to kill him in the recent past.
