N Vaiyapuri new deputy chairman of Odisha’s Paradip Port Trust

N Vaiyapuri, Traffic Manager at Chennai Port, took charge as deputy chairman of Odisha’s Paradip Port Trust on Monday.

He started his career as Assistant Traffic Manager in Chennai Port Trust in 1983 and rose to different levels.  Later, he was promoted as Traffic Manager of Mormugao Port Trust in 2006 and worked for 6 years and thereafter came in the same capacity of Traffic Manager to his parent port Chennai Port and worked for two and half years.

Having rich experience in port operations in a career spanning over three decades, he possesses practical knowledge in the traffic operations. He has introduced RFID based Access Control System in Mormugao Port Trust in 2010 for the first time amongst the major ports.

He is also responsible for introduction of Half Shift Gang System in Chennai Port Trust in 2013 which is also first of its kind amongst the major ports and this pro-active action has not only improved ship day output but also reduced the handling cost. The scheme was well acknowledged by the trade in particular by the Steamer Agents Association and Stevedores Association.

The efforts taken by him for reducing the prevailing congestion was well appreciated by all stakeholders. He is also responsible to increase the working hour from 7 hours to 7.30 hours during first shift at Chennai Port by reducing the recess hours from 1 hour to 30 minutes from May 2014.

He graduated from Madras University in Mechanical Engineering and also has done his MBA. In addition to this, he has obtained Master Degree in Port Management and Harbour Administration with distinction conducted by APEC at ANTWERP, Belgium from October 1988 to July 1989.
