Naba Das killer Gopal Das had received one promotion, 45 rewards during Police service: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: Dismissed police ASI Gopal Das, the suspected killer of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, was given 45 rewards during his service in Odisha Police.

Replying to a question asked by BJP MLA Kusum Tete in ongoing Budget session of Odisha Assembly, Home (MoS) Minister Tusharkanti Behera informed the House that ASI Gopal Krushna Das had received one promotion and 45 rewards for his performances during his service.

“The former police ASI Gopal Krushna Das was appointed as the Constable on July 8, 1992 in Berhampur District Police. He has served the department after getting promoted as the ASI in the year 2009 in different police stations and outposts for a period of 13 years in Jharsuguda district,” the Minister replied in the House.

As per the list of his achievement and rewards presented by the Minister in the State Legislative Assembly during the Budget session, the accused police personnel in Naba Das murder case had worked as the ASI at Badmal PS from 14.11.2009 to 19.6.2013, at Kolabira PS from 26.6.2013 to 2.4.2014, at Banharpali PS from 14.4.2016 to 6.6.2018, at Belpahar PS from 7.6.2018 to 27.11.2020 and Gandhi Chowk police outpost from 27.11.2020 to 29.1.2023.

The number of rewards given to Gopal Das was 45 for his service. He had received 18 rewards under the category GS Mark, 9 money rewards and 18 commendations since 1993 till 2020, the list revealed.

Worth mentioning, Gopal Das had gunned down Health Minister Naba Das while the latter was stepping out of his vehicle to attend a public meeting at Gandhi Chowk on January 29. The Government handed over the probe to the state Crime Branch to ascertain exact motive behind the murder.

Currently, Gopal Das has been lodged at Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack district.
