Naba Das murder: Accused Gopal Das’ remand extended by 4 days

Bhubaneswar: The JMFC cognizance court in Jharsuguda today allowed the Crime Branch to take dismissed police ASI Gopal Das on remand for four more days in connection with the murder of Odisha Health Minister Naba Das at Brajarajnagar on January 29.

The Crime Branch had sought the permission of the court to take Gopal Das on remand for nine more days.

Notably, the accused ASI had opened fire on the Health Minister during an event at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district on January 29. The minister succumbed to his injuries while being treated at a private hospital here on the same day.

The accused police ASI was detained soon after the incident. Acting upon the direction of the Chief Minister, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police took over the probe and produced the accused in the court after arresting him in connection with the incident.

The court had earlier allowed the Crime Branch to take the accused on four-day remand for interrogation. The remand period ended today.

“We have elicited certain information from the accused during interrogation. We urged the court to allow us to take him on remand for nine more days for further quizzing. The court has given permission to take the accused on remand for four more days,” said the CB official.
