Naba Das murder case: Accused police ASI Gopal Das dismissed from service

Bhubaneswar: Police ASI Gopal Krishna Das, who opened fire on Health Minister Naba Das Yesterday, has been dismissed from service by Jharsuguda SP.

The ASI had been posted at Gandhi Chowk police outpost at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district. SP Rahul Jain dismissed the ASI from service by exercising the power vested under Article 311 of the Constitution of India.

The ASI opened fire on the Health Minister during an event at Brajarajnagar. The minister was airlifted to Bhubaneswar and admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition. The minister later succumbed to his injuries.

The accused ASI was taken into custody after the police personnel deployed at the event at Brajarajnagar overpowered him.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered a Crime Branch probe into the incident. A seven-member team of the Crime Branch is now probing the case.

Soon after the firing incident, the accused ASI’s wife claimed that her husband has been suffering from some mental illness for last seven to eight years.

“He was taking medicines and behaving like a normal person. He never harmed anybody. He had visited his native village in Ganjam district four or five months ago,” said the ASI’s wife Jayanti Das.
