Naba Das murder: Special medical board constituted to study accused Gopal’s mental health

Bhubaneswar: Forensic Psychological Assessment (FPA) and Layered Voice Analysis (LVA) tests of the accused Gopal Das (a former ASI of Odisha Police) are being conducted today by a team of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), New Delhi at Jharsuguda in connection with the murder of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, who died in gun attack on January 29 in Brajarajnagar.

“A special Medical Board has been constituted to study the mental health of the accused,” a press release issued by state Crime Branch in this regard mentioned.

According to a private source, when an interviewer keeps questioning an accused, the LVA technology helps analyse the changes in the latter’s voice in order to determine whether the accused is leaving the state of homeostasis. It is likely that the probe team may go for a polygraph test of the accused cop.

Earlier in the day, the policeman was produced before the Court of JMFC, Jharsuguda after completion of the first 4-day remand period. The court has allowed further police remand for four days.

As per the disclosure of the accused, the previously recovered 22 pieces of handwritten paper have been sent to the handwriting bureau for chemical examination and expert opinion.

The documents recovered from Gopal’s paternal house at Industrial Estate, Berhampur and government quarters at Jharsuguda are being scrutinised. The financial details of the accused, his wife, brother and other close relatives are also being collected by a team of CID-CB, the press release stated.

Notably, the Crime Branch probe in connection with the CID-CB PS case (No-02, dated-29.01.2023) arising out of Brajarajnagar PS case (No-34, dated-29.01.2023 U/S 307 IPC/27(1) of Arms Act turned to Section 302/307 IPC/27(1) of the Arms Act is underway led by Additional DG (ADG) Arun Bothra.
