NALCO official dies of COVID-19 in Odisha

Angul: Odisha’s Angul district reported its first COVID-19 death as a 57-year-old senior official of NALCO died of the disease yesterday, informed Collector Manoj Kumar Mohanty.

The NALCO official tested positive for the virus on June 29 while undergoing treatment at VIMSAR in Burla. He was yesterday shifted to Talcher COVID hospital, where he was received dead, the collector said, adding that his body was later sent to Satyanagar crematorium in Bhubaneswar for cremation.

His 52-year-old wife, who works as a teacher at VSSUT in Burla, has also tested positive for the virus. She has been shifted to a COVID hospital in Cuttack.

Following the death of the NALCO official, a medical team visited his workplace and carried out contact tracing. As many 15 persons have been placed under home quarantine.

On the other hand, the OPD of NALCO hospital was closed for a day and sanitised. The office of the deceased has also been closed for two days and sanitised. This apart, his official quarter has been sealed while the area has been sanitised.
