Nandan Vihar minor girl death: Deceased’s maternal uncle, one more relative arrested in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police today arrested two persons in connection with the decomposed body of a 13-year-old girl earlier recovered from Nandan Vihar Housing Board Colony under Infocity police limits of Bhubaneswar on August 11 evening, said DCP Prateek Singh in a presser.

The arrested are Nanda alias Sukhlal Sai (29) and Nagendra Singh (35). One of them happens to be the maternal uncle of the victim girl and another also a relative of her.

“The minor’s body was dumped in a conservancy lane, which was not identified then. A team of Infocity police led by ACP Zone-VI cracked the death mystery. After verifying CCTV footage collected from nearby areas, it was ascertained that the girl had gone to the house of a relative staying in the same locality on August 9. The key accused is the victim’s maternal uncle. After a detailed probe and during interrogation, he confessed to his crime. The crime scene has been recreated,” stated the DCP.

“For a reason that has not been known yet, the key accused had attacked the minor on her head with a wooden baton on the intervening day (August 9 at around 1.00 pm), after they had an altercation over a matter. The girl sustained severe injuries in the incident and later succumbed on the spot. Weapon of offence has also been recovered,” the DCP further said while briefing mediapersons.

“Infocity police have forwarded the arrested duo to a local court,” DCP Singh expressed.

Worthy to mention, the minor girl’s body was found in a decomposed state. A foul smell emanated from the body prompting locals to become suspicious and inform the police about it.

An unnatural death (U/d) case was initially registered and was subsequently converted to a murder case.
