Narasingha Mishra demands action against Odisha CM over breach of privilege

Bhubaneswar: Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra today moved a breach of privilege notice against Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Tusharkanti Behera, Minister of State (Home), demanding action against them.

In a letter to the Secretary of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Mishra said the Minister of State (MoS) representing the CM stated in the Assembly that following the precedents of Lakhimpur Kheri incident in Uttar Pradesh and the order passed by the Supreme Court of India, in the case of murder of former minister Naba Das, retired judge Justice JP Das has been nominated by the High Court to monitor the investigation of the case.

The CM though the MoS has intentionally misled the House to escape from the criticism of the Opposition. The facts stated in the answer are not true, Mishra said in the letter.

The Supreme Court had passed a judicial order constituting the SIT and appointing Justice (Retd.) Rakesh Kumar Jain. In the present case, the order has been passed from administrative side, he said.

It is a clear case of breach of privilege of the House. The CM and the MoS have committed breach of privilege for which they are liable to be punished, Mishra concluded.
