National Cancer Awareness Day 2021: Date, significance and quotes

Bhubaneswar: As India is celebrating the National Cancer Awareness Day on November 7, there is an immense need on the part of people to be aware about cancer, one of the deadliest diseases in the country.

Technology has advanced, but it is also a fact that hundreds die every year in the country to lack of adequate treatment. Mostly, patients do not know they are suffering from cancer. In a way to prevent the disease and lessen the effect, early diagnosis is the key.

The Government of India has been observing the National Cancer Awareness Day on November 7 to create awareness on the disease.

For the first time, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan in September 2014 announced that November 7 will be observed as the National Cancer Awareness Day.

As the birth anniversary of Nobel-prize winning Scientist Madame Curie is on November 7, the Government of India decides to celebrate the day as the National Cancer Awareness Day commemorating her contribution to radiotherapy for treatment of cancer.

Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1867, Marie Curie discovered radium and polonium which led to the development of radiotherapy.
