Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has reacted to media reports claiming the introduction of toll tax on two-wheelers on national highways (NHs).

Gadkari today slammed the media reports by terming them as misleading. The Union Minister made it clear that the government has no such plan to levy toll tax or user fees on two-wheelers plying on the NHs.

“Some media houses have published that the Centre is planning to levy toll tax on two-wheelers on NHs. There is no truth in these reports. The complete toll exemption on two-wheelers will continue in the country,” said Gadkari in a Twitter (X) post today.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also denied the media reports.

“Some sections of the media have reported that the Government of India plans to levy user fees on two-wheelers. We would likely to clarify that no such proposal is under consideration. There are no plans to introduce toll charges for two-wheelers,” said the NHAI in a social media post today.
