Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced Rs 25 lakh cash reward for Odisha's Javelin star Kishore Jena, who became the first from the state to have represented India at the final of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

He appreciated Kishore Jena's inspirational journey from the sports hostel in Bhubaneswar to the World Athletics Championship in Budapest.

Hailing from Puri district of Odisha, Kishore Jena was among three Indians including Neeraj Chopra to have qualified for the men's Javelin final of the World Athletics Championships held yesterday.

While Neeraj Chopra won the gold for the country, Kishore Jena showcased a remarkable prowess in javelin throwing achieving a commendable fifth-place finish. He achieved a new personal best with a throw covering a distance of 84.77 meters, highlighting his exceptional performance in the international event.

Kishore’s participation is a remarkable feat for the athlete and a historic achievement in the sports history of Odisha, a release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said today.

Commending the indomitable spirit of Kishore Jena, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Kishore Jena’s remarkable journey and exceptional performance at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest have not only brought glory to our state and nation but also inspire many athletes for years to come”.
