Naveen expresses condolence over demise of Girish Karnad

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today expressed deep grief over demise of legendary actor and Jnanpith award winner Girish Karnad.

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, he wrote, “Saddened to learn about passing away of iconic actor, litterateur, playwright, Padma Shri #GirishKarnad. He will be missed in the world of literature and cinema. May his soul rest in peace.”

The 81-year-old multi-lingual actor, well-known theatre personality and noted playwright Girish Karnad passed away at his home at around 8.30 am due to age-related illness. He is survived by his son Raghu, a writer and journalist.

The popular TV soap ‘Malgudi Days’ – based on the works of renowned Indian English author, R.K. Narayan – actor Karnad had performed mostly in Kannada and Hindi films, which were in mainstream and off-beat genres.

He was last featured in the Bollywood movie — Tiger Zinda Hai — playing the role as Dr. Shenoy (RAW Chief).
