Naveen launches Odisha’s own food security scheme

Bhubaneswar:  Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the State’s own food security scheme to cover the poor people, who were “left out” from the Centre’s National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Patnaik launched the scheme by interacting with people from four districts – Balasore, Balangir, Sundergarh and Mayurbhanj – via video conferencing at the State Secretariat here.

As per the provisions of the scheme, 25 lakh poor people left out from the benefits of the NFSA, will get the rice of 5 kg per month for Re 1.

“I am very happy to launch the scheme today on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. This is your money and the money of Odisha. Everyone has the right for the food security scheme,” said Patnaik while interacting with the people.

“We have kept our promise and I am happy that 25 lakh poor people will get rice at the rate of Re 1 a kg,” the CM said after launching the state scheme.

The Odisha government will spend Rs 442 crore per year for implementation of the scheme.
