Bhubaneswar, Nov 2:
Holding chief minister Naveen Patnaik responsible for the death of Tikiri lady teacher, OJM president Pyarimohan Mohatra today asked him to give up the Home portfolio which he holds since the BJD government came to power.
“The rising number of crimes against women shows that the Chief minister is not capable of handling the Home department. The case of the lady teacher has triggered anger among the public. It is time he assigns the Home portfolio to someone else, “ said Mohapatra at a press conference here.
He also said the government, which is only announcing ex gratia for victims, has failed to arrest the rising trend of crimes against women.
Citing the 'relief loot' case in Cuttack as an example, the OJM president blamed the ruling party leaders for shielding the culprits involved in heinous crimes.
Mohapatra said he has written to Sarad Pawar, Union Agriculture minister, requesting him to visit the cyclone and flood affected areas of the state and take necessary action both towards compensation and rehabilitation.
