Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is all set to achieve a new feat as he will become the second longest-serving CM in the country tomorrow, informed Dhruba Charan Sahoo, BJD MLA.

"Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will surpass late Jyoti Basu to set the record. It is a matter of pride for all of us. Patnaik has played a major role in transforming Odisha, especially in poverty alleviation," said Sahoo.

Worth mentioning, Basu served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal for 23 years and 138 days. Former Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling holds the record of longest serving Chief Minister with 24 years and 166 days.

On the other hand, Patnaik, a five-time Odisha CM, has served as the Chief Minister for 23 years and 137 days, as on July 21, 2023.

The BJD supremo and the party have been receiving thumping support from the people of Odisha with victory in Assembly Polls in 2000, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.

Patnaik himself has successfully contested the elections from Hinjili constituency five times and elected to the Legislative Assembly.
