A two-member team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) arrived here on Thursday on a five-day visit to probe recent cases of rape in the state.

The team, comprising Hemlata Kheria and Manasi Pradhan, will meet the parents of a minor girl in Salia Sahi here who was raped and murdered today and review the status of the police investigation in the case.

Later, the team will meet the Khandapada rape victim, who is battling for her life at SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after being stabbed in the throat after rape.

From there, the team will go to the victim’s native village Kandhamirigi under the Khandapada police station limits.

On Saturday and Sunday, the team will visit all major police stations in Khandapada and Nayagarh to evaluate the arrangements for deterring crimes against women.

Besides, it will also visit the district headquarters hospital to study existing facilities for handling cases of assaults on women.

On September 2, the team will leave for Baripada and meet the hearing and speech-impaired tribal girl, who was raped by her instructor on August 10.

The next day, the team will have a meeting with the concerned officials dealing with the aforesaid cases.
