NEET UG 2021: Odisha urges NTA to open additional exam centres

Bhubaneswar: Citing the difficulties that students might face while going to a few selected examination centres in Odisha to appear for all-India NEET UG 2021 test amid frequent lockdown and shutdown due to the Covid pandemic, the State government requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to set up one exam centre in each district of the State.

In a letter, Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, PK Mohapatra, urged NTA Director General, Vineet Joshi on Monday to consider the State’s proposal for one NEET UG exam centre in its 30 districts.

In view of Covid-19 pandemic, it will be highly unsafe for students to visit the few examination centre physically appear for the NEET UG 2021 test. Further, due to frequent lockdown and shutdown imposed by different district administrations the transportation system is very often disrupted making the movement of student’s further worse, the letter mentioned.

Worth mentioning, the NTA, which is conducting the NEET UG 2021 examination, notified Angul, Balasore, Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela and Sambalpur as examination centres in Odisha.

“Odisha has got vast tribal pockets having geographically inaccessible areas and far away from the urban centres of the State for which the students of this State may be deprived of appearing the NEET UG as they will have to move long distance for appearing the test,” the letter read.

On March 9, 2021, Mohapatra discussed the issue with the NTA DG through video conferencing.
