New policy to bolster Odisha’s move to make it sports hub

Bhubaneswar: A new Sports Policy will come up soon to promote different types of games and to make Odisha as the sports hub. This was revealed by Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera today.

Currently, the National Sports Policy is in force in the state. A draft on sports policy has been prepared and the state will have its own policy very soon, the minister said in a reply to BJD MLA Bhupinder Singh in Assembly today.

Though a survey is yet to be conducted on number of sportspersons in Odisha, they are being given identity cards.

However, the sportspersons, who have played at international sports events, have been provided jobs in various sectors.

While athlete Srabani Nanda was given job in Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), sprint queen Dutee Chand got job in Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). Total 96 sportspersons have been given jobs in Odisha police, he told the House.
