Newborn boy discarded on roadside in critical condition in Odisha’s Subarnapur; rescued

Sonepur: A newborn boy was discarded today on the roadside in critical condition at Tebhapadar under Subalaya police limits in Subarnapur district. Later, a woman rescued the baby.

According to a police source, the newborn was kept in a bag alive and dropped at Tebhapadar. A local woman named Bhanumati Bagh spotted the child while lying on the road and took him to a nearby health facility in Biramaharajpur town for immediate medical treatment, the source added.

“Perhaps the child is an illegitimate one for which his parents had thrown the newborn on the roadside. Condition of the baby was critical when the abandoned child was rescued,” a resident stated.

The baby boy was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Sonepur after his health condition deteriorated. “Condition of the baby is not out of danger,” a doctor treating him expressed.

On being informed, district Childline members have reached the hospital. Subalaya police also reached the health facility and launched a probe into the incident to trace out the baby’s parents.
