Berhampur: A newborn boy was found abandoned in a farmland near Sarana Nuapali village under Ballaguntha block in Ganjam district this morning. However, he has been admitted to hospital in Bhanjanagar for treatment.

Sources said a villager had gone to the nearby field to defecate this morning when he heard a baby’s cry in the field. Finding the newborn, he immediately informed an ASHA worker, who rushed to the spot and rescued the baby boy. She later admitted the newborn to a hospital in Bhanjanagar and his health condition is stated to be stable now.

The hospital authorities have informed police and district Child Line officials about the incident.
