Newborn girl abandoned on roadside in critical condition in Odisha’s Sambalpur; rescued

Kuchinda: A newborn girl was abandoned by someone in critical condition near a compound wall at Khandokata village under Kuchinda police limits in Sambalpur district, today.

Later, the baby was rescued by some locals and admitted to sub-divisional hospital (SDH) in Kuchinda for treatment.

According to a police source, the newborn was spotted by locals while lying near the house of one Dillip Sahu. She is undergoing treatment and her health condition is stable now.

“A few residents of Khandokata village heard the newborn crying early in the morning and reached near the baby. Gradually, several others congregated at the spot. However, a man named Sanjay Patel from the village, who works in the government-run health facility, took her to the SDH,” the cop said.

On being informed, Kuchinda police reached the hospital and launched a probe to find out the parents of the abandoned newborn.

“Perhaps the child is an illegitimate one for which her parents had thrown the newborn on the roadside. Condition of the baby was critical when the abandoned child was rescued,” a resident stated.
