Newlywed woman found dead at in-law’s house in Odisha’s Khurda, family alleges murder

Tangi: A young woman was found dead today under mysterious circumstances at her in-law’s house in Khandisa village of Champapedi panchayat under Chandpur police limits in Khurda district. However, the family of the deceased alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws over a dowry demand.

The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Jyotshnarani Parida, the younger daughter of Madan Parida from Bada Baramula village of Gopalpur panchayat under Ranapur police limits of Nayagarh.

According to a police source, Jyotshnarani had married 28-year-old Chandrakanata Jena, the son of Madhab Jena from Khandisa village around four months ago. She had been complaining of both mental and physical torture by her husband and the in-laws. After a few days of her marriage, the husband-wife relationship gradually turned sour as the in-laws had been allegedly demanding dowry.

After getting information from her in-laws, Jyotshnarani’s family reached Basant Manjari community health centre (CHC) in Chandpur. However, doctors at the health facility declared her ‘dead’.

Acting on an FIR lodged by the victim’s father, Chandpur police registered an unnatural death (U/d) case in this connection and initiated a probe, which is underway. Police have detained and are questioning Jyotshnarani’s husband at the police station and sent the woman’s body for post-mortem.
