Rourkela: A mock Drill simulating an ammonia leakage scenario was conducted at the Ammonia Storage Tank – I, ACU of Silicon Steel Mill of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 26th June, 2025 evening with the objective of reinforcing disaster preparedness and emergency response mechanism at odd hours. 

The Mock Drill scenario revolved around at simulated leakage of ammonia, triggering alarm by Online Ammonia Detector and emergency siren at ACU. 

C R Mishra, GM In Charge (SSM) and other senior officers were present on the occasion. 

The exercise involved the active participation of three teams i.e. the Combat team, Rescue team, and Auxiliary team. These teams consisted of members from Silicon Steel Mill, Safety Engineering Department, Fire Services, EMD, OHSC, CISF and the transport department.

The mock drill specifically assessed the response time of different agencies and their adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to ammonia leakage. Detailed analysis and evaluation were carried out in the presence of functional heads and representatives from associated units, highlighting areas of strength and improvement. 
           
It is worth mentioning here that RSP regularly organizes such mock drills in strategic units to maintain a high level of preparedness and effectively address any exigencies that may arise.
