Bhubaneswar: The New Plate Mill (NPM) of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) achieved a string of production records on July 10.
The mill rolled 5,109 tonnes of plates on the day, surpassing its previous best of 5,050 tonne achieved on December 11, 2024 to set a new benchmark. This marks the highest single-day plate rolling record for NPM since its commissioning in 2014.
In addition, NPM set a new single-day slab rolling record by rolling 383 slabs, improving upon the earlier record of 355 slabs. The mill also achieved its best-ever shift tonnage of 1,834 tonne during the ‘C’ shift on the same day.
Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (DIC), RSP with the additional charge of DIC, DSP & ISP accompanied by Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), Anil Kumar ED (MM), M P Singh ED (Mines), Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Rajesh Dasgupta, CGM (F&A) with additional charge of ED (F&A) visited NPM on today to congratulate the collective on their excellent performance.
Speaking on the occasion, the DIC exhorted the collective to maintain the streak of records in the days to come. He also motivated them to make small steps of improvements on a day-to day basis to achieve big notable success. The DIC emphasised upon reducing defects to match global standards and eliminate rejects to optimise productivity. He also urged the collective to maintain the health of the furnace.
The DIC also presented three books as a token of appreciation to three executives of NPM for taking this target and achieving it on time.
