NGOs, academicians and corporates deliberate on development of Odisha

A coordinated effort of the three sectors—academicians, corporates and NGOs–can drive Odisha’s development at the grass-root level, experts opined at “Dialogue for Development: Odisha Stakeholders Conclave 2015” here on Thursday.

Odisha Stakeholdes conclave 2015The representatives deliberated on the current problems faced by the State in various sectors including health, child and women development, education and sustainable livelihood.

While inadequate health and education infrastructure in the remote areas and poor access to health and education in many parts of the state was considered as one of the key challenges for child and women development, community sensitization and end to end services for sustainable livelihood generation remained a key barrier for sustainable livelihood in Odisha, the representatives expressed.

The participants highlighted on public private partnership (PPP) model for strengthening of the number of child education teachers and develop progressive and sustainable partnerships for forward and backward linkages to deal with roadblocks in child and women empowerment and livelihood generation.

“As corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in the state are limited or insignificant, corporates should look forward to more significant CSR initiatives and collaboration with government, NGOs and communities will improve the delivery,.” Prof Supriti Mishra of IMI Bhubaneswar said.

“There is a need for such forums and the dialogue between the stakeholders should be ongoing. The field experience of NGOs and good intentions of corporates with able guidance from academicians can expedite the process of socio-economic development in the state,” Chairman, Odisha Khadi & Village Industries Board, Tejeswar Parida said.

Representatives of as many as 25 NGOs participated in the dialogue organized by Sesa Sterlite Limited.
