NGT expert examines Bali Jatra grounds in Odisha’s Cuttack

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Cuttack, Feb 20:

An expert from National Green Tribunal (NGT)-Sudhakar Patri today examined Tala Padia, the venue where famous Bali Jatra is organized in Odisha’s Millenium City-Cuttack.

Patri will be submitting his report to the NGT. Cuttack Collector Nirmal Mishra and several other senior officials of the district administration were present at the time of Patri’s visit to Tala Padia.

It may be recalled here that the NGT had imposed restrictions on organizing Bali Jatra on the banks of river Mahanadi on grounds of river pollution.

Further, the green watchdog had also directed that there can be no temporary or permanent construction at the site.

Besides, it had ordered the district administration to refrain from filling the river bed, dumping of debris and encroachment of the river embankment. The order had caused worry both for the traders as well as the district administration.

However, the NGT on November 4 last year had issued clearance for holding of Bali Jatra.
