Acting on a complaint filed by human rights activist Akhand, who had prayed to the commission for an impartial inquiry into the matter and compensation for the victim, the apex rights panel has directed the Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare to submit an action taken report (ATR) in the matter within four weeks.

The mishap had taken place at the Ramanaguda Community Health Centre on December 27, 2014 and the patient was identified as Sarita Padhi of Limapadar village under Gunupur block of Rayagada district.

Sarita, along with four others, had visited the Ramanaguda Community Health Centre along with an ‘Asha Worker’ to get the surgery done. However, the doctor, while doing the surgery, erroneously slashed the food pipe following which she was shifted to the private hospital in Vizag.

The incident had evoked widespread outrage after odishasuntimes.com carried a report on it.
