Nine get lifer for murdering man in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: The District and Sessions Judge Court today awarded life imprisonment to nine persons after convicting them in a murder that took place two years back.

District and Sessions Judge Soma Sekhar Jena convicted Bali Majhi, Santosh Majhi, Patidi Majhi, Nari Majhi, Kusha Majhi, Krushna Majhi, Sada Majhi, Salu Majhi and Kabi Majhi of Podakana village under Tikiri police station limits in the murder case and pronounced the order after a trial of around two years.

The nine convicts called out the murder victim, Chhelia Majhi of the village from his home at around 8 pm on November 30, 2017. They took Chhelia to nearby Kadigarada forest and hacked him to death.

During the court’s hearing, locals and family members of the deceased said the crime was committed over property dispute.
