Bhubaneswar: As many as nine persons lost their lives when lightning struck them in different places of Odisha today.
In Kendrapara district, a resident of Baradanga village under Mahakalapada police limits died on the spot after being struck by lightning. The deceased was identified as Saroj Jena. Family members said lightning struck him while he was working in his agriculture field.
In Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar and Deogarh districts, one person each died in lightning strike.
Two persons each died in Tangi area of Cuttack district and Dhenkanal Sadar area when lightning struck them.
In Nabarangpur district, a minor boy died in lightning strike while returning home after watching a cricket match in Miriguda village under Papadahandi block. The minor boy was identified as Narasingha Majhi of Sunadangari village.
Majhi was returning home at around 3 pm when thunderstorm and lightning along with heavy rain occurred. In lightning strike, the minor boy fell down on roadside in Majhiguda village. Later some villagers took him in an ambulance to Papadahandi Community Health Centre where doctors declared him brought dead.
