Nippon likely to set up 30 MTPA steel mill in Odisha

Bhubaneswar/Tokyo: Odisha may soon have India’s largest and one of the world’s biggest steel plants, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after a meeting with Nippon Steel Corporation president Eiji Hashimoto today evening in Tokyo, Japan.

The meeting was very fruitful, the CM added.

The project will bring in a great deal of investment and generate huge employment and very large revenue, which would benefit the people of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts, Patnaik said.

The CM has assured complete support to the proposed mega plant which will give a huge boost to the socio-economic development of the State and these five districts in particular, the CMO tweeted.

The company has plans to set up a plant with a capacity of 30 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) that will produce speciality steel. The ambitious steel plant is going to be a greenfield project, the Chief Minister stated.

Earlier in the day, a high-level delegation from Odisha led by the Chief Minister had arrived in the capital city of Japan to promote investment opportunities in the State. CM Patnaik elaborately discussed the potential collaboration opportunities between Nippon Corporation and the Government of Odisha.

As part of the schedule, Odisha Business Meet 2023 will take place at Hotel ‘Okura Tokyo’ tomorrow and will be attended by over 200 industrialists, investors and businessmen from across Japan and Indo-Pacific Region.

The CM will give a presentation to prospective investors on the existing and emerging business opportunities in Odisha. Later in the evening, he will meet the Odia Diaspora in Japan. On April 6, the State delegation will visit Kimitsu Steel Works and the R&D center of Nippon Corporation.
