In a tragic incident, a student of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Rourkela died after falling down from a running train at Rajgangpur railway station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district this morning.
The deceased, identified as Ronop Das (22), a third-year student of NIT and a resident of B/65, Sector-5, Rourkela, had boarded the Inter City Express at Rourkela railway station at 5.30 AM.
Das, who was on the way to Sambalpur, had boarded the last bogey of the train. However, at Rajgangpur station, he wanted to change the bogey and got down from the running train. As the train by that time had gathered speed, he could not keep his balance and fell down on the track and lost his two legs.
The incident took place at about 6 AM.
Following information, the GRP police rushed to the spot and rushed Das to Rajgangpur hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.
Police later handed over the body to the family members after post mortem.
"We have begun an investigation into the incident", KC Samal, GRP in-charge, Rajgangpur, told OST.
Father of the deceased Dipak Das is the deputy general manager in Rourkela Steel Plant while the mother is a lecturer at Vedvyas College.
