NMB Memo Trophy : Progressive trounce Solar by 238 runs, enter semis

Bhubaneswar, Jan 18 :

Jharsuguda’s Progressive Cricket Association thrashed Solar Cricket Club, Cuttack  by a whopping 238 runs today to enter the semifinal of the Old Monk Club Soda NM Bhuyan Memorial Trophy organized by the Mukteswar Cricket Club (MCC) at the BJB College ground here.

Progressive Cricket Association which won the toss and elected to bat first and amassed a huge 293 runs for 8 at the end of 40 overs – thanks to a power-packed exciting century by Prashant Sahu (101). This was the second century in the tournament so far.

Ranjit Singh was the next top scorer with a very well made 64 while Priyatosh Parmanik scored a brisk 37.

The pick of Solar bowler was Anand Sahoo who claimed 4 wickets for 41 runs. Sagar Rout finished with a figure of 2 for 33.

Pitted against a huge total, Solar Club collapsed like a house of cards as they failed to negotiate a fiery  bowling attack by the Progressive bowlers. Barring Sanjay Khuntia (15) and Sangram Sahoo(12) none of the batsmen could reach double digit. The team was bundled out for just 55 runs, 239 runs short of the target in the 16th over.

Moni Haq, the chief destroyer, virtually ran through the Progressive batting order with a terrific bowling performance. He took 6 wickets for just 23 runs.The rest four wickets were claimed by Tarun Sahu (4/30).

Prashant Sahu , adjudged the Man of the match for his brilliant ton, received his award from Sanjiv Hans.
