No change in power tariff in Odisha this year

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) today said there would be no change in Retail Supply Tariff (RST) in the state for all classes of consumers during 2019-20.

The power tariff was also not hiked last year.

“The power tariff will remain unchanged for domestic consumers, commercial and industrial units for the year 2019-20,” OERC Director (Regulatory Affairs) Priyabrat Patnaik said in a press statement here this afternoon.

Tariff order for FY 2019-20 is effective from June 1, 2019.

The Commission, which could not notify electricity tariff proceedings in view of model code of conduct imposed during the general election,, finally came up with its notice today.

The notification regarding the tariff finalisation was kept in a sealed cover due to the model code of conduct (MCC) which was in place for the Lok Sabha elections.

In view of the MCC, the OERC was allowed to notify the latest tariff order only after the last date of polling in the state, it said.

The OERC also said that LT single phase consumer who has made full, timely payment of his energy bill for 12 months of the financial year will get extra rebate equal to his rebate for the month of March.

Like the last fiscal, the consumers have to pay tariff at Rs 2.50 per unit for the first 50 units, Rs 4.30 per unit for consumption above 50 units upto 200 units, Rs 5.30 per unit for consumption above 200 to 400 units and Rs 5.70 per unit for consumption above 400 units.

There has been an average decrease of approximately 2 per cent in Bulk Supply Tariff (BST) for all discoms.

Transmission tariff for 2019-20 fiscal remains unchanged, the release added.

In order to promote digital payments, the Commission has announced to provide 2 per cent rebate to consumers on online bill payments. Earlier, it was 1 per cent.

The OERC had hiked of 10 paise per unit in electricity tariff in 2017-18 fiscal.
