No change of guard in Odisha PCC: Jitendra Singh

Bhubaneswar: Putting all speculations to rest, Odisha Congress in-charge Jitendra Singh today brought a huge relief for Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Niranjan Patnaik.

“Change of leadership in Odisha Congress is unlikely now, Patnaik will continue as PCC President and disciplinary actions will be taken against members acting against party principles in public,” told Singh to media persons at New Delhi.

Recently, a rift within the grand old party had surfaced challenging Patnaik’s leadership following Bijepur bypoll debacle in Odisha . A group of leaders had raised voice in favour of first-time Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim for his elevation as the new PCC chief.

However, the party’s state in-charge cleared the air stating that all’s well in the party.

Earlier in the day,  a group of supporters of Odisha PCC head had held a meeting at Hotel Keshari in Bhubaneswar after some leaders proposed to elevate Cuttack-Barabati legislator as the party’s state president, a party source said.

“The meeting which was held today, was neither in support nor against anybody. We assembled here to discuss strategies to strengthen our party,” said senior Congress leader Manas Choudhury.
