Bhubaneswar: Students' Union Elections will not be held in universities and degree colleges in Odisha this year.
The Common Academic Celender for the Academic Session 2023-24, which was issued by the Higher Education Department of the Odisha Government on Tuesday, has no mention of the Students' Union Elections in it.
Notably, the elections have not taken place in Odisha since 2018.
Last week, members of National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, had staged demonstrations in front of various degree colleges and universities across the state demanding the polls.
"Students are being denied their democratic rights as the State Government is not holding Students' Union Elections. Student representatives are needed to address various issues like shortage of teaching and non-teaching staffers in higher education institutions," Yashir Nawaz, state president of NSUI, had said.
