No Zero Night celebration in Odisha amid Omicron scare

Bhubaneswar: To avoid mass gathering of people for Christmas and New Year, Odisha Government today completely banned Zero Night celebration across the state.

Issuing fresh guidelines, the State Government said Zero Night celebration in hotels, clubs, restaurants, parks, convention halls, Kalyan Mandaps has been completely banned across the state. Besides, strict surveillance will be done to check overcrowding at public places.

“No social gatherings, rallies, orchestras, dance and other cultural events will be permitted on the two occasions,” said the order issued by Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today.

“Christmas celebration will be limited to churches with a maximum 50 persons joining the mass by strictly following COVID protocols and in terms of specific conditions as imposed by collectors, municipal commissioners and local authorities while permitting such mass, if any,” read the SRC order.

The fresh restrictions came in the backdrop of the state’s Omicron tally surging to four.
