Some non-engineering ITI courses to be abolished

Bhubaneswar, May 2:

Odisha government is considering abolition of some of the non-engineering courses or ‘trades’- that are not popular with students and also do not fetch jobs in the market easily- from the curriculum of the government industrial training institutes(ITI).ITI

The Employment and Technical Education and Training (ET&T) department has asked the director of Technical Education and Training to furnish information,institution-wise and trade-wise admission and placement status over the last three years and also suggest which trades or subjects are to be abolished, said an official of ET&T department.

The department has also sought institution-wise specific plans for utilization of shop floor of the trades to be abolished.

Since many employees will be jobless due to the abolition of some of the trades, the department has asked all ITIs to prepare a list of such employees and also specific proposals for their re-deployment, said the official.
