Bhubaneswar, Oct 15:

The death toll due to the floods in northern Odisha caused by heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Phailin rose to seven on Tuesday, official sources said.

While water levels in Budhabalanga and Brahmani have receded in the last 24 hours, Subarnarekha continues to be spate. The situation in Balasore district is still grim with over 68, 000 people marooned and over seven lakh affected, sources in the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office said.

The situation is unlikely to improve in the next 24 hours as release of water into the sea is slow due to the impending full moon.
