Nor’wester kills 1, critically injures 2 as tree falls on them in Odisha’s Gajapati

Mohana: A youth was killed on the spot and two others sustained grievous injuries after a tree fell on them due to Nor’wester-induced rain and thundershower at Chheligada in Gajapati district, today.

Identities of the deceased and injured youths have not been ascertained yet, an official said.

According to a source, the three youths were travelling on a motorcycle when a tree fell on them leaving one dead and two others injured. They were on their way from Padmapur village to Chheligada to have their tiffin when the fatal mishap occurred. They got trapped under the tree.

The injured were rescued by some locals and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Worth mentioning, IMD issued the Yellow Warning earlier in the day. The meteorology department forecasted that thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH were very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
