Nor’wester: Woman among three killed in separate incidents of lightning strike

Nayagarh: Three persons including a woman were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes today afternoon at around 4.00 pm due to a Nor’wester-induced thundershower in Nayagarh. The incidents were reported from places under Sarankul police limits in the district.

The three deceased were identified as 35-year-old Padma Pradhan from Jakeda village, 21-year-old Jitendra Dora from Mahulia and 70-year-old Dhaneswar Parida from Bhaliadihi.

According to police sources, Padma had gone to a nearby farmland when she faced the lightning strike. Similarly, Jitendra had gone to a mango orchard to collect mangoes leading to his death.

A friend of Jitendra, who accompanied the latter, sustained severe burn injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Godipada locality.

Family members of the three rushed them to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Nayagarh for treatment. However, doctors at the health facility declared them ‘brought dead’.

Bodies of Padma, Jitendra and Dhaneswar have been kept at the hospital for post-mortem.

Besides, locals have demanded compensation for the next of kin of the deceased.
