Noted Odia Anthropologist is the new DG of ASI

Bhubaneswar: National Monuments Authority (NMA) Chairman Professor Kishore K. Basa has been entrusted with the additional charge of the Director General of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for a period of six months.

Basa will hold the additional charge till further orders or appointment of a regular Director General of ASI whichever is earlier, said a notification issued by the Ministry of Culture today.

Basa is the former Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University at Baripada in Odisha. He had also worked as the chairman of Indian National Confederation and Academy of Anthropologists, sources said.

Basa, a native of Mayurbhanj district, had secured the top position in matriculation examination in Odisha in 1973.

He completed his BA from Utkal University and MA in History from Delhi University. He started his career as a lecturer at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar and secured PHD from University of London in 1991.

He had worked as the head of Anthropology department of Utkal University for some years, sources added.
