Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia litterateur Satakadi Hota passed away today here. He breathed his last 8 am on Sunday. He was 95.
The Editor of Odia daily 'Samay' was the President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi from March 6, 2013 to March 5, 2016.
Born at Jagannathkhunta village under Bangiriposhi tehsil in Mayurbhanj district in the year 1929, Odia litterateur has penned many timeless poems, novels and short stories. He has published 27 stories, 21 novels and a book of poems. He started his literary pursuits with poetry. He has authored books including 'Byakula Hrudaya', 'Swapna Shiuli', and 'Ete Swapna Ete Aloka'.
Hota was conferred with Odisha Sahitya Akademi award in 1987 for the novel 'Ashanta Aranya'. He was awarded the prestigious Sarala Puraskar in 2004 for his collection of stories 'Muktimantri' and 'Janani Janmabhoomi'. This apart, he had received many honours like Sahitya Bharati Samman and Utkal Sahitya Samaj.
He has also left his marks in the field of journalism. He was the Chief Editor of Samay newspaper since its inception till date.
The prolific writer had held key positions in Indian Railway. The retired IRTS Officer was the DRM, Khurda Road during his service in East Coast Railway.
Besides, Hota was a strong organiser. He was the President of Bhubaneswar Book Fair.
