Dhenkanal: A notorious criminal was arrested by Kamakhyanagar police after an exchange of fire with the cops in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, early this morning.
He was identified as Subash Khuntia (30) alias Bubuna. Over 18 cases are pending against him at various police stations in the district.
As per reports, the police had received a tip-off that a group of criminals led by Bubuna gathered in Khuntaposi forest to plan an extortion using firearms and explosives.
Acting swiftly on this input, Kamakhyanagar police launched a raid. Upon approaching the location, the criminals threw bombs at the police team. In response, the police fired in self-defence.
During the operation, Bubuna was arrested while police recovered a country-made pistol, live ammunition, three fired cases, Rs 2000 cash, a crude bomb, and a machete. However, two criminals managed to escape. Efforts were on by cops to trace and nab them.
Bubuna sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
A police constable also sustained minor injuries in the incident and was undergoing treatment.
