Notorious criminal injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Ganjam

Dreaded criminal Sunil Bisoi was injured in a police encounter at Ambapua in Odisha’s Ganjam district last night.

According to reports, Sunil, who is also an aide of arrested former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena, was spotted by a team of BN Pur police near Ambapua blind school where he was hatching a plan with his associates to commit loot in Dhipa Sahi, Goodshed Road and Badakhemundi Sahi.

Realizing the presence of policemen, Sunil opened fire at the cops. In retaliation, police fired back at Sunil in which the criminal sustained bullet injuries on his two legs and was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment, sources said.

While police nabbed Sunil, his associates managed to flee the spot. One pistol and five rounds of bullets were seized from his possession. As many as 10 cases, including those of murder and dacoity, are pending against him, sources added.

Three police teams have been formed to nab the associates of Sunil, a police official said.

“After getting credible information, BN Pur police station Inspector in Charge (IIC) Ajay Mishra chased Sunil at Ambapua where he was going with his associates. As they fired at policemen, the latter retaliated in which Sunil sustained bullet injuries on his two legs,” said Santanu Kumar Das, SDPO, Berhampur.
