Notorious criminal Bhikari Das was injured in a police encounter near Aruapalli under Gopalpur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday night.

According to reports, a police team conducted raid in Aruapalli where the criminal and his four aides were planning to commit a crime in the area. In order to escape, Bhikari opened fire at the cops and hurled bombs at the team. The cops retaliated with two rounds of bullets in which Bhikari sustained injuries on his left leg, sources said.

Though Bhikari was nabbed, his four associates managed to flee the spot. Two tiffin bombs, one pistol and two live bullets were seized from the spot, sources revealed.

Bhikari was later admitted to Berhampur hospital for treatment. As many as 20 criminal cases are pending against him at several police stations in Ganjam district, police sources said.
