Bhubaneswar, Aug 1:
Soon non-subsidized kerosene will be available in petrol pumps to consumers across Odisha.
The state government had made a proposal to the Centre in this regard which has been accepted. An official said non-PDS kerosene would be available in petrol filling stations across the state within two to three months at market rate.
“All petrol pumps will store non-PDS kerosene which is white kerosene and cannot be used as an adulterant. Non-NFSA beneficiaries can buy this kerosene at market rate. This kerosene will be available in all petrol filling stations,” Pradipta Mohapatra, Principal Secretary Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare informed reporters here today.
The move has been welcomed by Utkal Petroleum Dealers’ Association while it suggested for making kerosene available in select petrol filling stations initially and later in all outlets.
“Instead of making it available in all petrol pumps it can be made available at select petrol pumps. All it requires is an underground tank and a dispensing pump. This is the basic requirement and nothing else. The kind of reach petrol stations have it will be of great help to consumers in rural areas,” said Sanjay Lath, general secretary of Utkal Petroleum Dealers’ Association.
